The OAS OPENING at the Soc. of Il. ,1285 63rd Street and Lexington, was a week ago…just before the OCT SNOW STORM!  As always I hear it was a storm of a night itself!  Always wonderful art and wonderful artists, editors, AD’s and vibes!  PATRICE BARTON, a ‘CAT artist,’ was honored this year to have her book “MINE” from Alfred A. Knopf in the show, and she traveled from Texas (with her friend and another CAT artist Laura Logan) to the BIG APPLE to see the opening…. and NYC.  I think they fell in love with NY and certainly with the group from Knopf who has made Patty one of their team.  I wish I’d been at the lunch full of laughter!  moments to savor….

Here is a photo of Patrice (on left) and Nancy Sisco, Knopf Associate Pub. Dir. and Ex. Editor,  at the OAS opening with one spread from MINE toddling beside them.  It’s adorable, as are the two of them!  (hope they don’t mind my saying that ‘out loud!’)

Let me encourage any and everyone who can get to the show before it ends (end Nov???)  because if you are interested in this industry you will LOVE the show.  The best art of the year, and the books to peruse and enjoy while seeing THE ORIGINAL visuals…well one of them per book anyway.  It’s a yearly tradition and treat for those who go…. hope you can be one of them!  ENJOY…

  1. Sounds like a wonderful event! Wish I could travel that way at times like these. :o)

    Congratulations to Patrice!
Isn’t her work done digitally? For the show is it a digital print?

  3. patrice says:

Thank you, Melissa! Yes, I work digitally and it is a digital print in the show.

The show runs through December 29, 2011, and is well worth a visit if you have a chance. Kadir Nelson’s painting is so gorgeous it will make your eyes well up! Melissa Sweet’s collage – omg, just beautiful. And that’s just two examples!

  4. I just returned from a trip to The Big Apple, and tops on my list was to see this exhibit. It was wonderful!
